This inner space journey features an international collaboration between PHURPA (phurpa.bandcamp.com), renowned Russian ritualists that perform the ancient Bon music of Tibet, and QUEEN ELEPHANTINE (queenelephantine.com), the avant garde rock group formed in Hong Kong and now based in Philadelphia, USA.
Together they weave history with the future into an offering that reflects the present moment, slowly teasing the tension of a dense electric buzzing chaos while seeking anchor and abandon in ancient knowledge. This chant and drone work goes incredibly deep, astronomically far out, and is the sound of death as much as of healing.
PHURPA provide the backbone with their transcendent thunderous throat chanting while QUEEN ELEPHANTINE create an otherworldly cloud around them, using gyaling horns, conch shells, gongs, flutes, ceremonial bells and bowls, drums, guitar, and electronics.
The artwork features a striking sculpture by Transylvanian skull-carver Victor Seiche, a fitting image for the sound of a dead wisdom tradition adored, adorned, and defiled with sincere devotion.

Review of M.B. (Maurizio Bianchi) – The Sacral Inhabitat CD (4iB047) by Progress Report::
In 2020 Maurizio Bianchi was celebrating 40 years of working in music. The 40 years consisting of two periods of work separated by a large break of 15 years. There were some releases under the name Sacher-Pelz in 1979 and 1980 before Maurizio started to release music under own name in 1980. This came to an abrupt halt in 1983 when Maurizio had become a Jehovah’s Witness and there are quotes from around this time when it seems he was expecting the end of the world. However in 1998 Alga Marghen records offered to set up a label for his recordings and Maurizio resumed working in music and at an astonishing rate with a huge plethora of releases.
The second phase of his musical endeavours shifts between different styles, sometimes his work is perhaps calmer and more subdued than his earlier works and at other times it seems as if he is revisiting the sounds and methods of his earlier pieces.
The Sacral Inhabitat is one of the more subdued works. It’s has an almost mournful funeral sound as it starts. What sounds like but isn’t a slowed down loop of some sort of horn type instrument leads us into the first of two long pieces. Other subterranean rumblings, higher pitched squalls join in and crackles, pulses and noise all appear at quite a pace for a track that is has such a slow dragging feel to it. What sounded like a loop develops throughout the first half of the piece but is effectively for this time the heart of the track the other sounds (and there are plenty of them) come in for a short period of time before they disappear to be replaced by others. It’s very deceptive piece; you don’t think much is happening or changing the first time you listen to it then you realise how complex it actually is.
The second piece is less structured and more free form in its nature with similar sounds to the first piece but without it’s main sound holding the pieces together and giving you something to connect to. Because of this it’s not quite as effective and you don’t feel that you’re losing yourself in the piece in the same way.
It’s an interesting album covering ground that not that many bands do nowadays or if they do, they don’t do it to anywhere this level of ability. The pieces here are deceptive in their ability to make you lose track of time and get swept up inside their underwater subterranean feel. The only time I can remember having a similar feel from an album is when listening to William Basinski’s work with loops.
Certainly one to pick up if you come across it and I’ll be looking out for more of MBs recent works. DB (Irrational Arts)

Review of K2 / Astro / V.O.E.R. – Subconscious Error CD (4iB048) by Dark Entries (Dimi Brands):
‘A Garden Of Flesh’ trekt dit euvel gelukkig helemaal recht.

These 2 heavyweights and veterans of the harsh noise genre come together once again to deliver 3 tracks of junk noise nihilism. Titled “Kyomu-No-Ne” in Japanese, it loosely translates to the philosophical phrase “The Sound of Nihilism”.
The complex mosaic of harsh frequencies stack and pile on each other relentlessly, detailing the richness of sound through crazed electronics and effects device manipulation. Organic sound elements get deconstructed and regurgitated in a firework display of grating metal bashing, and nails-across-the-blackboard screeches drowned by analog feedback. This is an album displaying an audio environment of heavily layered textures and complex junk electronics overdrive.
It is also highly significant that GX Jupitter-Larsen (of The Haters) contributes to the release with his trademark splatter artwork, considering the close working relationships between these 3 established noise artists.

“Any work of architecture that does not express serenity is a mistake.” LUIS BARRAGAN
What is serenity?
To some; serenity is a tranquil, sequestered, fulfilled state of existence. A wilful pause of the modern consumer existence that pollutes and perverts our lives. A cessation of the demands modernity forces so brutally upon our febrile short lives.
To others serenity exists within scripture, tomes and ritualistic expressions of the divine. The devout seek a glimpse of this divinity, through the serenity they seek whilst shackled to the cold clay of this mortal coil.
Stephen Burroughs is FRAG and FRAG is a project that has found serenity in the brutalist architecture of the Midlands of Britain. In seeking to express in sound; the collapse of the industrial heartlands of the United Kingdom he has created through his FRAG project; a collection of audio sculptures that evoke the concrete isolation of his claustrophobic environment.
FRAG is the soundtrack to a mankind that is alienated completely from the natural order of life. His compositions are not warm but cold, angular and granular. Huge slabs of desolate anguish that despite their sterile inhumanity pulse and seethe with submerged longing. The sound of FRAG is that of a lone human hand extending skywards from a collapsed building. That hand pointing accusingly, cursing the heavens for that fate that has befallen it. Beneath that dead mortar is humanity slowly expiring under the cold dead weight.
It is entirely logical that FRAG and Maurizio Bianchi would collaborate together. In his early Archeo years Mr Bianchi explored the themes of isolated consciousness in the industrialised environment. The stark truth of the industrial age was explored by MB as he sought his own solace to the decaying soulless hell that surrounded him. Alienated by the inhumanity of his existence he sought to hold a mirror up to the crushing weight that sought to crush any and all resistance to its dehumanizing nature. Whilst MB sought to escape this brutalism of the soul by seeking an eremite like existence within the works of faith, FRAG became the lone wolf operative working behind enemy lines to fight a rearguard war of attrition against this inhuman leviathan. Both MB & FRAG have and are fighting the same war, against the same foe , using the same weaponry; the medium of sound.
Psychation despite containing three lengthy tracks really needs to be listened to as a whole. Despite the tracks being individual entities with quite different atmosphere they are best appreciated as a thematic progression across the entire album. These tracks are constantly evolving and mutating pieces of angular geometry. A cascade of electronic shapes that fluctuate and shift in a metamorphosis of Musique Concrete tonal expressionism. At times the unrelenting nature of the album is just about to break your endurance before a snatch of melodic ambience breaks through the tumult and disarray.
Where Psychation differs from most ‘noise’ based albums is that it retains its granite density without descending into chaotic nonsensicality. Despite the at times abrasive incisive attack of sound it retains a sense of weight. Almost as if the sound is being layered as one would layer asphalt, layer after layer added and poured. Over and over again in ceaseless repetition. The sound of humanity as it is drowned beneath the post human neo liberal order. Psychation is the sound of humanity as it thrashes and drowns beneath the technologic order that it has birthed into being.
Psychation is a warning to us all. A warning of the world we will inherit if we forgo our humanity and spirituality. If we throw all caution to the wind and embrace the technologic future.
Psychation is a window into that world. The post serenity, post human world of concrete, zero & ones and mindless consumerism.
MB & FRAG are pointing at the inevitable conclusion of our existence if we as humans choose to venture any further. (Review by Kristian Carter.)

Bleeding Images is a split release between experimental noise artists Dedali (Alessandro Bosello, 1/2 of Italian label Menstrual Recordings) and Murder Corporation (Moreno Daldosso). The tracks from Dedali were all recorded between 2009 and 2018, and Murder Corporation in 2016 at Murderhouse. This album thus unearths these unreleased recordings from their personal archives. M.B. (Maurizio Bianchi) is also featured in a collaborative 1st track together with Dedali titled The Shedding. This is a meditative soundscape combining harsh sounding drones overlaid by a growling ambience of chanting prayers that seems to emanate from an echo chamber.
Bleeding Images is heavy on tape sampling, short wave noises, radio frequency interference, treated electronics and distorted voices. The overall Armageddon-like atmosphere is one that is bleak and depressing. The forlorn environment of loss and despair is accentuated by the low frequency atmospheric loops of siren-like hums, fragmented conversations, fragile crackling of radio frequency channels and eerie striking of piano keys. These trance inducing noisescapes consisting of high pitched shrills, low frequency vibrations and whisper of distant voices weave in and out of your subconscious like the unsettling experience of hypnagogia.

This double album connects the dots between Sutcliffe Jugend and Slaves No More (SNM), highlighting the transition from one to another. The decision to end Sutcliffe Jugend was officially announced in end 2019 and Slaves No More formed in early 2020. This release bridges the 2 acts and showcases the somewhat different music styles between them, especially from the former’s earlier power electronics sound. Consisting of material recorded right after S L A V E S was released back in 2016, this is the sequel to that release, albeit reduced to just 2 discs instead of the initial planned multiple discs (as a follow up) to S L A V E S 6xCD Boxset.
This release has been aptly titled Slaves No More for obvious reasons of paving the new direction of the band of the same name. Remnants of the earlier Sutcliffe Jugend style can be identified on Disc 1 with more vocals parts and noisy elements (especially in Noise Factory), and the slightly more ambient and complex soundscapes of Slaves No More (SNM) on Disc 2. Both discs contain unreleased material, and they continue to feature layers of noise and sound elements unique to the Sutcliffe Jugend style. With the release being reduced to just 2 discs, the recordings have been particularly curated to showcase the best tracks Kevin and Paul want to present as the final Sutcliffe Jugend release post S L A V E S. This release encapsulates the best and final Sutcliffe Jugend moments, and showcases that connective lead up from S L A V E S (the album) to an era of new sounds and creative direction, Slaves No More (SNM).
